Intern Spotlight – Mason Mundy

At CIESC, supporting education goes beyond serving our partner schools and organizations, it also means investing in the next generation of professionals. This summer, our award-winning Media Services team had the privilege of welcoming Mason Mundy, a Media Production student from Ball State University.

Over three months, Mason stepped behind the lens to capture major statewide education events like SPARK Summit 2026 and KINLCon 2026, while creating moving media content for local communities.

In this first installment of our CIESC Intern Spotlight series, Mason shares his experience working with professional-grade equipment, producing hype videos and long-form packages, and building valuable connections across Indiana’s educational landscape.

On the second floor of the second pyramid lies Central Indiana Educational Service Center. A service center that serves Indiana schools and organizations. In the middle of the service center lies the award winning media services team. A team of professionals dedicated to providing high quality videos for schools using professional-grade equipment. A hardworking team that is always helping schools by telling the school’s stories. I was fortunate enough to intern with this team. 

While my time at CIESC has been brief, I have greatly enjoyed my time here and I have learned a lot in the last three months. At CIESC, I have had the opportunity to intern in the media services department and gain lots of hands-on experience. Everyone on the team was very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. I was able to be hands on with a camera to have an open opportunity to practice and learn different lens and shot varieties. Using a professional-grade camera and all types of equipment was a unique experience that is hard to gain in any other media internship. 

I was tasked with three major projects while I was here: The Learning Network of Boone County, a social media video about SPARK Summit 2026, and four social media spots and one longer package for CIESC’s own KINLCon26. With each project, the more I learned.

 

Boone County is where I learned proper interview setups and a few advanced Premiere Pro skills. Learning about the English class for non-English speakers was a unique experience and getting to tell their story made me very accomplished.

SPARK Summit 2026 was my first go at a hype video for social media. I learned what makes a social media video exciting, with the use of exciting music and fast, fun transitions. SPARK Summit was a fun conference to be at; being able to capture the excitement of educators from all over gave me the same energy for learning that the educators have for their craft. Conferences like SPARK Summit are fantastic for educators and it was great to be tasked to cover the event.

KINLCon26 was the culmination of the previous two: videos for social media and a longer package as a bonus. KINLCon was an exciting challenge. Working on four videos at once with a minute time limit each allowed me to be more creative with how I used what video I had. This is when I felt most confident in skills like color correcting, using After Effects templates and selecting good, energetic music. The package is where I felt better about putting together a longer, cohesive story, while learning different aspects of how these stories can flow better. 

Wrapping up my time at CIESC by being able to go to the Loveland Shorts Film Festival was fantastic. Meeting lots of other creatives and film makers was an amazing experience. The greatest part of interning at CIESC was the networking I was able to do. Making connections with the media services team and different school districts is invaluable. The film makers in Loveland was networking that is exciting to receive going into my last year of school and is networking I would have never received if it weren’t for CIESC.

I have learned and grown a lot as a film maker thanks to my time at CIESC. While it has been a short three months, the experience, the knowledge, and the people made it a very special three months. I am excited to complete my degree at Ball State, and I am excited to utilize everything I have learned during my time at CIESC.
