CONNECTING ADMINISTRATORS
The CIESC Executive Mentoring program connects a retired, highly successful administrator with a current administrator to provide job-specific and socio-emotional support that enhances the individual’s chances of a long and successful administrative career.
Developing a trusting relationship with a mentor provides an opportunity for regular feedback in a safe environment.
Focused Mentoring
The demands of a central office or building-level administrator continue to increase. No matter how prepared an educator thinks they are, once in the position, individuals realize they would benefit from additional support. While some districts have an internal system in place, an outside mentor may be a better fit — for availability and for the opportunity to receive feedback from an outside perspective.
Choosing a Mentor
1Express InterestThe district member superintendent contacts the Executive Mentoring Coordinator to express interest and mutually determine the best mentor for the individual receiving the mentoring.
2Make the MatchOnce selected, the district superintendent notifies his/her administrator, and the mentor contacts the mentee to arrange an initial meeting.
3Begin MentoringA district receives 48 hours of free mentoring service per year. To continue beyond the complimentary hours, the district superintendent and CIESC executive director agree on a number of hours at $55 per hour.
Confidentiality
A key component of a successful mentor relationship is confidentiality. All communication between the mentor and the mentee is confidential, unless the mentee agrees to disclose information shared during the mentoring relationship with the district’s superintendent.
